For this week's Sketchbook assignment, I want you to pick either of these lamps to try to draw. The lamp on the left is an easier drawing as the shapes and angles make more sense. Observational drawing is something you can get better at so give yourself a chance and don't give up before you even try. 

Please note the following: 

  • Drawing is all about seeing basic shapes and angles. 

  • If you look the the image on the left and just draw any basic triangles you see this can help you out. There is an implied triangle on the light area of the lamp as well as to the left of the center pole. 

  • Measuring how big things are compared to a different part of the drawing is helpful.

  • How big is that top bar that is at an angle compared to the center bar that is verticle? 

  • Looking does the bottom of your light opening on the lamp go in line with the bottom of that angled poll?
