Materials

  • Pencil

  • Sharpie

  • Crayons or colored pencils

  • 2 pieces of white paper

Steps

  • Using the first piece of white paper, divide it into 4 different sections with pencil to practice drawing out the desired name.

  • Write out the desired name in different, unusual ways to find your favorite way.

  • Once you have decided which one is your favorite, we are going to add some perspective by adding some shadowing. This can be done by picking a “light source” from a corner of the paper. Then gently shade outside the lines of the letters that are facing away from the light source. This should create a thin line around the outside of the letter.

  • Then, using your favorite name design, write out the name with a pencil on the second piece of paper so that the letters are close enough so that when the outline of perspective is complete, the letter will touch. Be sure to draw them big enough for them to have presence on the page.

  • Trace over the name written in pencil with a sharpie on the border of the letters, being sure to add shadowing as well.

  • Using colored pencils, fill inside the letters. Feel free to blend colors together!

  • We will then begin to create our brick wall background. Start by drawing horizontal lines across the piece of paper using a red or brown colored pencils. Continue this process by adding vertical lines to the horizontal lines to create a brick look. Then, use colored pencil to heavily shade the borders of the bricks and lightly shade the insides of the bricks.

  • You may also add orange, yellow, or even a bit on green on the edges to add character and contrast to your work of art.
